Microgravity Demonstrations at Norwalk Maplehurst Elementary School

The Norwalk Maplehurst Elementary School had Space and Flying as their reading week theme. A space ship was constructed in a reading corner and a display case contained NASA items from students' parents. Click on the thumbnails below to view or capture larger image.

About 250 fourth and fifth grade students and about 60 second and third grade students watched a short video about water balloon experiments in microgravity or "weightlessness". They then learned about satellite orbits, shuttle missions, and why astronauts float around in space. Selected students then assisted Mr. DeLombard in operating the demonstration drop tower to investigate forces, fluids, and combustion in microgravity
