The Microgravity Acceleration Measurement System is
designed to operate autonomously within the EXPRESS
Rack. MAMS will be commanded from the ground and requires
no on-board crew interface. It is possible to obtain
MAMS status data from the Portable Computer System via
the EXPRESS Rack
Interface Controller. However, there are no current
plans to provide MAMS laptop software applications.
MAMS will be installed into EXPRESS Rack #1 on the ground
and will be transported to the ISS inside the Multi-Purpose
Logistics Module (MPLM). There are no unique MAMS installation
procedures. MAMS will be unpowered throughout the launch
and installation phase. The MAMS circuit breaker will
be in the closed position for launch and MAMS will be
activated when the power switch for the MAMS EXPRESS
Rack location is switched ON and power is applied to
the MAMS computer. There are no maintenance procedures
for MAMS. In the event of MAMS failure, the MAMS unit
will be de-installed
and returned to earth at the earliest available time.
